Irlam pharmacy wins LloydsPharmacy Pharmacy of the Year 2014
LloydsPharmacy Irlam in Manchester has been crowned Pharmacy of the Year 2014, beating off tough competition from over 1,500 pharmacies across the company’s UK network.
LloydsPharmacy Pharmacy of the Year was established to recognise excellence and the innovative, collaborative work that is carried out by LloydsPharmacy teams. The Irlam pharmacy took the title for its commitment to patient healthcare, ability to swiftly adapt to change and its strong collaboration with community groups.
Talking about the award, Oliver Kearney, Irlam Pharmacy Manager, LloydsPharmacy said; “We are absolutely over the moon to have won Pharmacy of the Year. We are all very passionate about what we do. We work very hard to ensure that the health needs of our patients within the community are catered for and looked after. Everyone in the team is so proud. We are a busy pharmacy and very much part of the Irlam community.”
Nominated by its area manager for the award and competing through a series of regional events, the Irlam pharmacy was one of seven pharmacies to be selected as finalists. At the final, each team had to make a formal presentation to a judging panel made up of LloydsPharmacy and GlaxoSmithKline representatives, demonstrating why they should be Pharmacy of the Year.
Nigel Swift, Sales and Marketing Director, LloydsPharmacy said; “We were very impressed and humbled by all the finalists and the calibre of work across the pharmacies, it was a really close call but the judges felt that the Irlam pharmacy had the edge. The amount of support, respect and trust they have earned within their local community is outstanding. Their commitment to patients is second to none and they excel at serving the local community; always going that extra mile.”
The judges noted that the Irlam pharmacy demonstrates authority in health and wellbeing and works hard at placing pharmacy on the map. It is involved in a number of health pilots and services that benefit not just their local community, but also neighbouring towns. These include projects such as the NHS Health Check. The pharmacy works in collaboration with local organisations such as GPs and NHS Local Stop Smoking Services.
Andrew Clark from GlaxoSmithKline, the industry judge, added; “These awards have served to remind us of the excellent work LloydsPharmacy pharmacists and their teams carry out across the community. The Irlam pharmacy has demonstrated that they really know, understand and care for their patients, putting them very much at the heart of everything that they do. This is our 16th year of supporting the awards and we are very proud to be involved with people who are driving innovation in pharmacy.”
The national final took place at Ettington Chase, Warwickshire. LloydsPharmacy Mossend Medical Centre, near Glasgow received a special mention from the judges.
