LloydsPharmacy announces winner of their annual Pharmacy of the Year award

A LloydsPharmacy store from Southmead, Bristol, was crowned ‘Pharmacy of the Year’ at the company’s annual awards event on Thursday 1 March, at The Belfry Hotel, Sutton Coldfield.

The award, which is sponsored by GSK, celebrates the best stores in the LloydsPharmacy network. Out of over 1500 stores, just three made it through to the national final, and Southmead was eventually named as the winner.

The stores came through regional heats to reach the final after being assessed on performance, community engagement, store visits and customer feedback.

Winning pharmacy manager Holly Thomas commented: “It’s amazing! To be named as the winner out of over 1500 stores is an incredible feeling. It’s such a fantastic achievement and we’re all so proud. We know how important it is to build strong links with our community and provide quality healthcare services to patients, so it’s great to be recognised for that.”

Retail Operations Director Andrew Gibb made the announcement after a gala dinner and praised the passion of all the teams involved: “Pharmacies are key parts of the communities they serve and so many people rely on the relationships they have with our teams. It’s been a challenging year for our profession, which is why it’s especially inspiring to hear how our finalists have gone above and beyond to achieve excellence.”

“The Southmead team is a perfect example of the intangible value of pharmacy. Not only are they a high performing store, but they go the extra mile for our customers to ensure the best possible outcomes.”

The finalists were also treated to an afternoon of relaxation at the hotel and spa, with the option to receive a golfing lesson from the course professional.

During the day, the teams were asked to create an awareness campaign encouraging customers to take advantage of health services on offer in their store. The objective of the task was to produce a plan that would help engage the community in locally commissioned services. The plans were then shared with the judges who awarded prizes for their favourite ideas.

The judging panel was made up of Nigel Swift, Marketing and Sales Director (Celesio UK); Andrew Gibb, Retail Operations Director (Celesio UK); David Healy (GSK); Andrew Gill (GSK).

This is the 16th year that Pharmacy of the Year has been running, and the 16th year that GSK has sponsored the event. Andrew Gill, Pharmacy Director at GSK commented:

“GSK has a special relationship with LloydsPharmacy and Celesio UK; our mission at GSK is to help people do more, feel better and live longer which is aligned to the work that LloydsPharmacy do every day. Southmead pharmacy exemplifies the key values of a best in class pharmacy. Community is at the heart of their work, always putting their patients first and going above and beyond to support their health needs.”

The store is located at 6 Arnside Road, Southmead – Bristol, BS10 6AT.
