Celesio UK appoints new Operations Director
Leading healthcare services provider, Celesio UK, has appointed Catherine McDermott as its new Operations Director. Catherine will join the business on Monday 3rd October in a role that also holds a position on the Celesio UK country board.
As Operations Director, Catherine will direct Celesio UK’s end-to-end supply chain and logistics activities, including overseeing leading pharmacy wholesaler AAH Pharmaceuticals.
Catherine joins from Amazon where she worked for four years, most recently as Supply Chain Director. During her time with Amazon, Catherine led the company’s operations and was responsible for implementing positive change and driving efficiencies year on year.
As well as achieving a Masters in Engineering, Catherine is a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering. She was both the youngest and first female Chief Engineer in the Pilkington group. Her career has also included roles with Tesco and Argos.
This is not Catherine’s first role in a healthcare company; between 2010 and 2011 she worked as Operations Director at Circle Health where she developed new, more efficient systems for delivering quality care in hospitals.
She commented: “I’m looking forward to combining my operational and healthcare experience in a business that fully embraces the future and puts customer experience at the forefront of its plans. This is an exciting new challenge for me and I’m really pleased to be joining another market leading, innovative company.”
Celesio UK managing director, Cormac Tobin, commented: “I’m really excited that Catherine is bringing her wealth of experience and expertise to our team. She’s joining from a very different business, but one that we can learn a lot from in terms of distribution, and I’m excited to see how she can help us grow our operational excellence.
“Catherine will lead on the development of our customer-focussed supply chain, with the goal of connecting more closely with our customers, giving them compelling reasons to do business with us time and time again.”
Catherine lives in a small village in Buckinghamshire with her husband and two children and is an increasingly enthusiastic baker, thanks to her passion for The Great British Bake-off.
