AAH Pharmaceuticals supports Selfies Saving Lives

AAH Pharmaceuticals is joining Premier League football stars, Olympic athletes and members of the public in supporting the Selfies Saving Lives charity campaign this National HIV Testing Week (22nd – 30th November).

Selfies Saving Lives is the brainchild of the HIV awareness charity, Saving Lives, and is challenging celebrity ambassadors and the public to tweet images of themselves holding cards printed with simple key health messages to encourage people to get tested for HIV and blood borne viruses.

Helping to raise awareness for the campaign, AAH Pharmaceuticals – part of Celesio UK – has donated advertising space on each of its 71 distribution vans in the West Midlands region. Campaign images will also be appearing across the country on public transport, in hospitals and in clinics.

Dr Steve Taylor, Medical Director at Saving Lives and a HIV specialist, commented: “One in four of those with HIV in the UK do not know they are infected. That means they cannot access today’s life-saving treatments – and may be unknowingly passing on their infection to others.

“A simple blood test can change all that. Selfies Saving Lives is all about raising awareness and reducing the stigma that can still dissuade people from taking the test.”

The charities’ Twitter handle is @savinglivesuk. Those who wish to show their support are being encouraged to take a picture of themselves with the official flash cards, and use hashtags such as #HIV #GetTested #GetTreated, “because HIV testing saves lives”.
